5 Amazing Water Droplet Animal ‘Sculptures’

5 Amazing Water Droplet Animal ‘Sculptures’:

Ridiculousness Alert! German Artist and Photographer Markus Reugels — who you may recall from his insane water droplet photographs — just unveiled his latest creation, a “Water Droplet Zoo,” meaning, he spent thousands of hours photographing colored water droplets to come up with ones that abstractly resembled animals.

Make sense? Doesn’t matter, because it’s cramazing — here’s 5 of the photos on display (Click For Full Size):

#4 might be a liiiiiittle on the abstract side, but whatever, still awesome. Let he who has not spent thousands of hours photographing water droplets cast the first ‘what animal is that?’ stone.

Now THAT'S a great band name!

I hereby claim "Tsar Bomba" as MY idea for a band name:

"Tsar Bomba is the Western name for the RDS-220, the largest, most powerful weapon ever detonated. The bomb was tested on October 30, 1961, in an archipelago in the Arctic Sea. Developed by the Soviet Union, the bomb had a yield of about 50 megatons. Its detonation released energy equivalent to approximately 1% of the power output of the Sun for 39 nanoseconds of its detonation. The device was scaled down from its original design of 100 megatons to reduce the resulting nuclear fallout. The Tsar Bomba qualifies as the single most powerful device ever utilized throughout the history of humanity."

The Cult of Mac Blog

The Cult of Mac Blog: "'Among his other activities, Woz collects phone numbers, and his longtime goal has been to acquire a number with seven matching digits... after more months of scheming and waiting, he had it: 888-8888. This was his new cell-phone number, and his greatest philonumerical triumph.

The number proved unusable. It received more than a hundred wrong numbers a day. Given that the number is virtually impossible to misdial, this traffic was baffling. More strange still, there was never anybody talking on the other end of the line. Just silence. Or, not silence really, but dead air, sometimes with the sound of a television in the background, or somebody talking softly in English or Spanish, or bizarre gurgling noises. Woz listened intently.

Then, one day, with the phone pressed to his ear, Woz heard a woman say, at a distance, 'Hey, what are you doing with that?' The receiver was snatched up and slammed down.

Suddenly, it all made sense: the hundreds of calls, the dead air, the gurgling sounds. Babies. They were picking up the receiver and pressing a button at the bottom of the handset. Again and again. It made a noise: 'Beep beep beep beep beep beep beep.'

The children of America were making their first prank call.

And the person who answered the phone was Woz.'"

a story about a dog - by alex

there was once was a dog named Pinky. She belonged to the librarian
at an English school called Venusa. Pinky lived her life like many
other dogs in Venezuela, confined to a courtyard 24 hours a day.
The librarian, Hans, befriended a girl (who lived with a handsome
fellow named Alex)who was teaching at the school. He asked her to
watch Pinky for a couple of days. She loves animals, and said yes.
However, Hans never had any intention of taking this dog back.
So, for about a week, Pinky lived in the most loving environment she
has ever known, actually being cared for. Unfortunately Pinky was
allowed to 'go' wherever and whenever she wanted to in her courtyard,
so the rigors of apartment living were not for her. Luckily, the girl
Daniela always did whatever was necessary to care for Pinky and her
roomates did not have to do anything they didn't want to.
So Pinky was having a good life, the best week of her life, and she
was learning how to be a good dog and she was learning slowly how not
to be a stupid dog.
Until she was hit by a car yesterday. Now she's dead.

two voices

it was interesting.... i dealt with death in the morning with my dad's family, and consoling my dad - it's never easy to see your dad cry, even when it's understandable mourning. But in the evening i went to a party with the drummer from my mom's old band, and there were a few other pople who performed, including an 82-year old firebrand of a woman who sang beautiful opera. I played bass with my mom, her husband, the drummer and their old guitarist for a good number of songs. I'd never played them before, but have heard them since i was little and was able to pick them up pretty quickly.

HaloScan.com - Comments

HaloScan.com - Comments: "My values are based on one principle: loving others as I love myself, or as Buddha taught, trying to view all beings as having been at one time your own beloved mother. When you strive tolive with this thought uppermost, then you naturally strive to eliminate others' suffering, not create suffering. You do not lie, make war, steal or despise. You don't ravage the earth and its peoples, you don't ignore poverty and pain. You don't strive to enrich yourself or your family and friends at the expense of others toil and sacrifice. You do not try to force anything on anyone. You live mindfully and with compassion. You care. You do not judge.

You do not live this way because you fear retribution in an afterlife. You live this way because it is right."

First Draft - Holy Shit!

First Draft - Holy Shit!: "I agree with the troll who said this isn't, exactly, comperable in scale to Civil war casualties. But I also agree with the poster who pointed out that the casual contempt for the lives of our soldiers and their families encoded in that cheery dismissal is disgusting. I've said this elsewhere on this same subject, its a quote from one of Lois Bujold's Vorkosigan books 'Lives don't add as integers, they add as infinities.' Every one of the dead, on both 'sides' of this sideless, incoherent, conflict adds as an infinity of loss to someone. More or less than the Civil war? More or Less than Vietnam? Averaged? By percentages? by time? by heat? I don't care. But add them by sorrow? Add them by love and hope lost, by demolished futures, by weeping children? Then, indeed, this is comperable to the Civil War, to Vietnam, and to all conflicts.

Mission Accomplished, indeed.

Update: Father Charged In Murders Of Daughter and Her Classmate - May 11, 2005: "Officials say Hobbs confronted his 8-year old daughter, Laura, for leaving the house after being grounded for allegedly stealing money from her mother.

Hobbs reportedly said the confrontation escalated and he punched his daughter in the face, knocking her down. Her friend, 9-year old Krystal Tobias, pulled a small knife to try to protect Laura. Hobbs says he punched Krystal, took the knife and began stabbing them both.

Officials say Laura was stabbed 11 times, including in both eyes. Krystal was also stabbed several times. Hobbs says he dragged the bodies further into the woods of Beulah Park and cleaned up the alleged murder scene."

apocalypse soon

t r u t h o u t - Robert S. McNamara | Apocalypse Soon: "Nuclear weapons, with roughly one seventieth of the power of the 1 megaton bomb just described, were twice used by the United States in August 1945. One atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. Around 80,000 people died immediately; approximately 200,000 died eventually. Later, a similar size bomb was dropped on Nagasaki. On Nov. 7, 1995, the mayor of Nagasaki recalled his memory of the attack in testimony to the International Court of Justice:

Nagasaki became a city of death where not even the sound of insects could be heard. After a while, countless men, women and children began to gather for a drink of water at the banks of nearby Urakami River, their hair and clothing scorched and their burnt skin hanging off in sheets like rags. Begging for help they died one after another in the water or in heaps on the banks.… Four months after the atomic bombing, 74,000 people were dead, and 75,000 had suffered injuries, that is, two-thirds of the city population had fallen victim to this calamity that came upon Nagasaki like a preview of the Apocalypse."

long time coming

Treehugger: Quote from R. Grudin's book Time and the Art of Living: "'The future is like a friendly stranger, polite and patient, forever trying to get acquainted with us, forever being rebuffed. If we did simple exercises for thirty minutes a day, we would greatly improve our strength, health, beauty, and life expectancy. If we studied for one hour a day, we could relatively soon learn languages, master wide knowledge, and..

..develop new professions. If we sensibly invested $1 a day, we would in thirty years control substantial wealth. If we did ourselves the almost absurdly simple honor of planning our free time, we would enlarge ourselves into a whole new dimension of freedom. Yet we often fail to do any of these things, so great is our contempt of the future, so massive our ignorance of ourselves. It would be for most of us a highly disagreeable experience to meet, in the flesh, our future selves. Not just for the visual shock of seeing our own spirits animating bent limbs, watery eyes, and sagging jowls; but for the moral shock of meeting individuals whom we have daily and disgracefully wronged.'"

one more time around

I woke the same,
as any other day except a voice was in my head.
It said, "sieze the day,
pull the trigger, drop the blade and watch the rolling heads."
The Day I Tried to Live,
I stole a thousand beggars' change and gave it to the rich.
The Day I Tried to Win,
I dangled from the power lines and left them all astretch.
One more time around, i might do it.
One more time around, i might make it.

The words you say,
never seem to live up to the ones inside your head.
The lives we make,
Never seem to ever get us anywhere but dead.

The Day I Tried to Live,
I wallowed in the blood and mud with all the other pigs.

I woke the same,
as any other day, you know i
should have stayed in bed.

The Day I Tried to Win,
I wallowed in the blood and mud with all the other pigs.
and I loved that i was alive.

Bloodninja: Maybe some other time. You should call up Papa John's and make an order
DirtyKate: Haha! OK
DirtyKate: Hello! I'd like an extra-EXTRA large pizza just dripping with sauce.
Bloodninja: Well, first they would say, "Hello, this is Papa John's, how may I help you", then they tell you the specials, and then you would make your order. So that's an X-Large. What toppings do you want?
DirtyKate: I want everything, baby!
Bloodninja: Is this a delivery?
DirtyKate: Umm...Yes
DirtyKate: So you're bringing the pizza to my house now? Cause I'm home alone... and I think I'll take a shower...
Bloodninja: Good. It will take about fifteen minutes to cook, and then I'll drive to your house.

Saw (hed)p.e. last night at the House of Blues in Chicago. They're a pretty good band with a rap-metal vibe that doesn't suck, and even though they seem to have lost one of their guitarists they keep it pretty heavy. Their dj looks like he's been living on the street for a while. The music is good and i like most of what the frontman Jahred is saying, but he did a pretty good job of alienating gays and Christians throughout the show. Enough with the tough-man talk, get on with the music.
Strangest thing was, after the show we were hanging out in the Foundation Room, a kind of vip room at the HOB with Matt, Greg, Sean and his girlfriend of nine months Joanna. As we're winding things up Joanna gets up and leaves in a friendly way, and then sean starts talking about how she didn't include in him in their new year's eve plans. I asked him, "wait a minute. did you just end it with her right now?" He said yes and at my request of Are You Serious, he explained that not only did she not include him in her nye plans - she said he was welcome to come along, but that wasn't cool with him - that after nine months, she still didn't call him her boyfriend, and didn't want him calling her his girlfriend. So, i guess the nye thing was the proverbial straw on the camel, but I've never seen a relationship end so abrubtly and almost unnoticeably.
So, that was the strangest part of the night.
The saddest part of the night was afterwards when I removed the last remaining pieces of gear from matt's house. Ah, how things are changing.

You couldn't Converse if you had fuckin' React juice.
So hold your corner as I hold this mic up in the air,
I'm eatin' through your crew like Stven King's Langoliers."
-- Pfife of Tribe Called Quest on "Motivators"

That is so awesome and makes me laugh every time.
Who wants to bet on the first "Reality" show that will feature a death - possibly by one contestant of another?

Ratings are their god, I wouldn't put it past them.
Ah, yes. The old blog. Thought I'd dust it off and just try to write alittle bit every day or so. I am definitely intimidated by all the great blogs out there, but as I need to teach myself with song writing, I've just got to start and get some momentum, and see where it goes. It'd be nice to have a kind of diary to remind me of my life.
So. Band practice today, didn't go to Transit afterwards. We were hoping to play with a new drummer, but he couldn't make it. Mark has gotten a little better but he just doesn't have the confidence to go much further.
Ok, that's a good start. Let's see how long I keep this up.

Standing before might
brave and True
Knows no one course is right
Peace crushed by metal
In the Dirt of Failed Men's arrogant power

The Bull of fearful power
Deaf to Truth
Surrounded on all sides
It crumbles from the inside

Closed eyes and dead minds
Grasp for Power and Wealth
...When Light breaks through
Power and Wealth will not save you
